Standing up for Ireland
Úna Morris
Mayo County Council
Ballina
Born in Dublin, I moved to Killala in 2000 with my husband Denis Quinn and family. It’s a welcoming community and a paradise for visitors. But it must work for people living/working locally - and for those who emigrated but can’t return due to housing issues, lack of work opportunities, spiralling living costs.
People in Ballina LEA need access to decent housing, healthcare (including MH), reliable infrastructure, supports for SMEs. Working in Deputy Rose Conway-Walsh’s Ballina office, I support families and individuals struggling to access housing, government supports, grants, pensions, HSE appointments etc.
Locally, I helped set up Killala Foroige, Killala Bay Folk Club, chaired Killala Community Futures. I also support Ukrainian refugees in Ballina, volunteered at Barrettstown Gang Camp, adult literacy tutoring and facilitate art workshops.
