John Sheamuis Ó Fearraigh lives in Brinalack, Gweedore. He is a fluent Irish speaker and is a Candidate for the Sinn Féin party in the Glenties Area in the forthcoming Local Election on June 7th. He has been a sitting Councillor since 2014 and sits on 13 different committees representing the Glenties district and raising issues on housing, roads, tourism, island communities and community development. John was chairman of the Roads Policy Group for Islands; this was set up to deliver better road infrastructure on the islands. It resulted in funding from Roinn na Gaeltachta of €1.2 million. John also secured funding of €1.2 million to invest in a pontoon and improve the safety of Bun Beag pier. John has worked with community groups and has done charity work within the community all his life. Among the groups he has worked with is Friends of Letterkenny Hospital. He’s also taken to the stage on occasion and been involved in a range of shows. He takes great pride in promoting the Irish language daily with constituents.
