Standing up for Ireland
Cathal Ó Conchúir
Galway City Council
Galway City West
I was born and raised in Galway and attended the ‘Bish’ before attending UCG, where I was awarded a BA in Irish and Geography. After graduating in 1983, I volunteered to work in Malawi for two years, gaining valuable experience in community development skills.
After returning from Malawi, I became a teacher in the ‘Jes’. Over the last 40 years I have also worked in a voluntary capacity, managing youth development projects.
I have been a Sinn Féin activist since my college days and had the honour to serve on Galway City Council (2014-2019). Among other projects, I worked to have LED public lighting introduced, saving the council millions. I also drove the mapping of an alternative greenway route from the City to Bearna.
