Sinn Féin MP Paul Maskey has hailed the steps forward in upgrading west Belfast’s wastewater infrastructure to unlock new developments.
He was speaking after it was revealed of the additional £19.5 million allocated to NI Water by the Department for Infrastructure in late 2024, £7 million of this will be used to progress 1200 residential homes and 5 commercial units in the upper Falls area.
Mr Maskey said:
“Expanding our wastewater infrastructure and building more homes is a priority for the Executive, and it’s welcome news that funding has been allocated to unlock new developments in west Belfast.
“With housing waiting lists for this part of the city at a record high, it’s important we continue to do everything we can to build more social and affordable homes.”
The West Belfast MP also spoke of the new Infrastructure Minister’s commitment to continue expanding capacity:
“Carrying on the positive work of John O’Dowd, Minister Kimmins set out in the Assembly this week her commitment tomodernising the north’s wastewater system.
“By working together and innovatively, we can continue building more properties and ensure all individuals and families have a place they can call home.”
“The British Government must play its role in this, ensuring our public services are fairly funded, and Sinn Féin will continue to press them for this,” concluded Paul Maskey.
