‘Truth Recovery Independent Panel an opportunity for voices of those affected by institutions to be heard’ – Dillon

Sinn Féin MLA Linda Dillon has encouraged those with lived experiences in Mother and Baby Institutions, Magdalene Laundries or Workhouses in the north, up until 1995, to get in contact with a new truth recovery body.

The party’s spokesperson for victims and survivors said this was an opportunity for the voices of those affected to be heard by the Truth Recovery Independent Panel:

“The creation of this panel is an important step forward to enable victims and survivors of these institutions to have their experiences and some harrowing stories told, and for lessons to be learned.

“I would urge anyone who has been directly impacted, a relative or those who previously worked in one of the institutions to get in touch with the body, and help reveal the truth.

“The treatment of women and girls and their children here over decades was utterly shameful, a stain on society and we must do everything we can to ensure those wrongs are never again repeated.” CRÍOCH/ENDS

The Truth Recovery Independent Panel is open for testimonies until 1 May, 2025, and more information can be found at; https://www.independentpanel.truthrecoveryni.co.uk/.
