Tragedies on our roads leaving communities numb with grief – Martin Kenny TD

Sinn Féin spokesperson for Transport and Communications Martin Kenny TD has extended his condolences to communities across the country, after four deaths occurred on the country’s roads in the past 36 hours.

Speaking today, Teachta Kenny said:

“First and foremost I want to extend my condolences to the families, friends, and communities affected in the wake of these awful collisions.

“In the past 36 hours, lives have been lost on roads in Louth, Mayo, Roscommon, and Kerry. I am also aware of reports of a pedestrian who has suffered life changing injuries after a collision in Tipperary.

“I understand Gardaí are investigating the circumstances around these collisions and I would urge those with information to come forward to assist them.

“This has been a disastrous year in terms of lives lost on our roads and It’s important to understand what the underlying factors are for such an increase in deaths.

“Speed limit reductions – while important – cannot be the sole measure used to address this increase. We need to seek an improvement in road safety with a multi-agency approach.”
