Sinn Féin spokesperson on Transport and Communications, Martin Kenny TD, has once again called for clarity from Tánaiste Micheál Martin and Transport Minister Eamon Ryan on the election promise of a dedicated public transport policing division.
His comments were made following frustrating exchanges with the Transport Minister Eamon Ryan during Minister’s Questions this morning in the Dáil.
Teachta Kenny said:
“On one hand you have the Tánaiste telling Fianna Fáil members at their Ard Fheis that there will be a dedicated public transport policing division established.
“On the other hand, I have the Transport Minister telling me on the floor of the Dáil today that he doesn’t see the requirement for it, that he doesn’t understand why I am backing the calls of unions and workers for it, and that he has no current plans to establish it.
“People want to feel safe on public transport, and all workers have a right to feel safe in their workplace.
“If I am even more lost after asking for clarity on the floor of the Dáil chamber, I can only imagine how confused commuters and transport workers are.”
