Stardust families deserve an apology from government – Senator Lynn Boylan

Commenting on the verdict of the Stardust Inquest, Sinn Féin Senator, Lynn Boylan, has said survivors’ and families’ calls for a state apology must be listened to.

Senator Boylan said:

“Today is an incredibly emotional day for the survivors and the families of those who lost their lives in the Stardust tragedy. My thoughts are with them today. They deserve justice and truth.

“For four decades, they have faced multiple obstacles put in front of them by the state. The pillars of power in this country worked against them, as they tirelessly struggled for the truth to be heard.

“The verdict of unlawful killing confirms what survivors, victims’ families and Dubliners have always known. Now, their loved ones finally have justice.

“The survivors and families have been clear that they want a state apology from the Taoiseach. It is imperative that this apology happens.

“They have waited over four decades for answers to what happened to them and their loved ones. Justice has been a long time coming and in today’s verdict it has finally arrived.

“This has been a long and heartbreaking road for the families and survivors. I commend their determination for the truth to be known.”
