Sinn Féin MLA Danny Baker has said that the Department of Education must urgently publish its plans for the transformation of special educational needs services.
Speaking following a meeting of Education Committee, the party’s spokesperson for Children and Young People said:
”Numerous reports about our special educational needs system have been written and over 200 recommendations have been made to date, but we are yet to see a plan for transformation.
”Sinn Féin has consistently called for better planning to address the lack of special educational needs places, for improvements to the statementing process and for more tailored support for each child and young person.
“We need to see proper co-operation between our health and education systems to ensure that children and young people with special educational needs get the support that they need.
”I am calling on the Minister of Education to urgently publish the SEN Reform Agenda and associated delivery plan.”
