SOTEU Debate: “End British Misrule in Ireland” – MacManus MEP

SOTEU Debate: MacManus calls for EU support to end British misrule in Ireland

Sinn Fein MEP uses maiden EU speech to seek full EU support for Good Friday Agreement and “an end to British misrule”

Midlands Northwest MEP Chris MacManus described new British legislation as “a full-frontal assault on all aspects of the Good Friday Agreement” whilst addressing Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen in the European Parliament.

The Sligo native said the EU were now experiencing the type of British behaviour that the people of Ireland were well used to.  “We have a long experience of the British establishment. We know that they don’t care about Ireland – north or south.

We know that they renege on their commitments – they have continually reinterpreted, misinterpreted and ignored the Good Friday Agreement to suit their domestic political agenda. Now you are learning what we have known all along – that they cannot be trusted.”

MacManus concluded his address by calling on the EU “to protect the Agreement, and to help us escape from British misrule” ENDS
