Sinn Féin MLA Liz Kimmins has urged the Southern Health Trust to conclude the outstanding smear test review urgently.
The party’s health spokesperson said:
“It is worrying that there are still around 11,000 women’s smear tests yet to be re-checked as part of the review of cervical screening.
“This is unacceptable and again demonstrates women’s health services across the north are not fit for purpose.
“I would urge the trust to conclude the outstanding tests as soon as possible.
“Last month the Assembly agreed on a motion calling on the Health Minister to work with the other parties to bring forward a Women’s Health Strategy.
“We now need to see action from the Health Minister to ensure women’s health in the north is fit for purpose and supports women at every stage of their lives.”
