Sinn Féin set out 10 priorities for supporting Irish artists – Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

Sinn Féin spokesperson on Gaeilge, Gaeltacht, Arts, Culture, Tourism and Media, Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD, has today launched the party’s top 10 draft priorities for supporting Irish artists and arts.

This follows yesterday’s Dáil Ealaíon: Assembly of the Arts, in which over 100 artists and representatives from across the arts sector came together to discuss policy with Teachta Ó Snodaigh, Party President Mary Lou McDonald TD and Senator Fintan Warfield at The Complex in Dublin City Centre.

Other priorities specific to the performing arts, the literary arts, the film and audiovisual arts, and the visual arts, crafts, and design, were also shared with participants, and will be published over the coming days.

Teachta Ó Snodaigh said:

“Yesterday, Sinn Féin met with and listened to over 100 artists and arts organisations assembled at our Dáil Ealaíon, and we are incredibly grateful for their insight and contribution.

“As part of our engagement, we shared with them our draft priorities for the arts, and today I’m excited to share our top 10 priorities for supporting Irish artists and arts with you.

“The 4D republican principles underpinning these policies are Díonú (Defend), Daonlathú (Democratise), Dídhoiléiriú (Demystify), and Díchoilíniú (Decolonise).

“We are setting out a vision for an artist-led democratic transformation of the Arts Council to make it more rooted and relevant in communities nationwide, decentralising reach beyond Dublin into rural communities, which came up time and again in our discussions with the sector yesterday, and also adopting an All-Ireland approach.

“This must be backed up by significant, sustainable, multi-annual funding, and with a dedicated capital programme, such as what exists for sport, to deliver workspaces, venues, studios, not to mention the housing our artists need.

“We are giving our commitment not to let the basic income pilot end with a cliff edge, but to develop a long-term scheme to follow-on from the pilot.

“We are calling for a comprehensive policy for the arts in education at all levels from pre-school through to adult learning, for the media to play its part, and for our Gaelic and Irish language arts to be at the heart of arts policy.

“Our proposals also outline ways we would advance dignity and inclusion in art work, with a focus on disabled artists and workers’ rights, as well as a pledge to help artists help the planet and promote peace.

“You can read more about our policies and 4D principles at the links below, and we will be launching separate documents over the coming days identifying priorities for Sinn Féin in government when it comes to different areas within the arts – performing arts, literary arts, film and audiovisual arts, and visual arts, crafts and design.

“Keep an eye out and let us know what you think!”

Leagan Sinn Féin amach 10 dtosaíochtaí chun tacú le healaíontóirí na hÉireann – Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

Tá urlabhraí Gaeilge, Gaeltachta, Ealaíon, Cultúir, Turasóireachta agus Meán Shinn Féin, Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD, tar éis 10 dréacht-phríomhthosaíochtaí an pháirtí chun tacú le healaíontóirí agus ealaíon na hÉireann a sheoladh.

Tagann sé seo sna sála ar Dháil Ealaíon inné, ag a chruinnigh os cionn 100 ealaíontóirí agus ionadaithe as gach chearn d’earnáil na n-ealaíon le chéile chun polasaí a phlé le hAengus, Mary Lou McDonald TD agus an Seanadóir Fintan Warfield sa Chomplex i lár Bhaile Átha Cliath.

Roinneadh tosaíochtaí eile freisin leo siúd a ghlac páirt, dírithe ar na taibhealaíona, na healaíona liteartha, na healaíona físe agus closamhairc, agus na hamharc-ealaíona, ceird agus dearadh, agus a seolfar sna laethanta atá le teacht.

Dúirt an Teachta Ó Snodaigh:

“Inné, chruinnigh agus d’éist Sinn Féin le breis is 100 ealaíontóirí agus eagrais ealaíon ag Dáil Ealaíon, agus táimid fíorbhuíoch astu go léir as ucht a gcuid tuairimí agus ionchur.

“Mar chuid den chomhairliúcháin, roinn muid ár dréacht-thosaíochtaí do na healaíona, agus táim ar bís inniú ár 10 bpríomhthosaíochtaí chun tacú le healaíontóirí agus ealaíona na hÉireann a roinnt leat.

“Is iad Díonú, Daonlathú, Dídhoiléiriú agus Díchoilíniú na prionsabail poblachtánach 4D ar a bhfuil na polasaithe seo bunaithe.

“Táimid ag léiriú fís i dtreo athrú ó bhonn daonlathach, faoi stiúir ealaíontóirí, ar an gComhairle Ealaíon ionas go mbeidh sé níos fréamhaithe agus níos ábhartha i bpobail fud fad na tíre, dílárnaithe ó Bhaile Átha Cliath go pobail tuaithe, rud a bhí luaite arís agus arís eile sa phlé leis an earnáil inné, agus ag glacadh le cur chuige uile-Éireann.

“Caithfear maoiniú suntasach, inbhuanaithe, ilbhlianta a chur ar fáil chun tacú leis seo, agus clár caipitil ar leith, mar atá ann don spóirt, chun spásanna oibre, ionaid agus stiúideonna a sheachadadh, gan trácht ar an dtithíocht a theastaíonn ó ealaíontóirí.

“Táimid ag tabhairt geallúint nach ligfear don bhunioncam phíolótach teacht chun críoch ar bhruach aille, ach go gcuirfimid scéim fadthéarmach ina áit.

“Táimid ag moladh polasaí cuimsitheach don ealaíon san oideachas ag gach leibhéal ón réamhscoil go dtí an foghlaim aosta, go nglacfaidh na meáin le ról níos suntasaí, agus go mbeidh ealaíon na nGael agus na Gaeilge ag croílár an bpolasaí ealaíon.

“Sonraítear inár moltaí freisin bealaí chun dínit agus lánpháirtíocht a chur chun cinn san obair ealaíon, ag díriú ar ealaíontóirí le míchumas agus cearta oibre, chomh maith le geallúint cabhrú le healaíontóirí cabhrú leis an gcruinne agus cur chun cinn na síochána.

“Féadfar tuilleadh a léamh faoinár bpolasaithe agus prionsabail 4D ar ár suíomh idirlíon, agus beidh muid ag seoladh doiciméid eile sna laethanta amach romhainn ag aithint tosaíochtaí do Sinn Féin i rialtas maidir le codanna éasgúil de na healaíona – taibhealaíona, ealaíona liteartha, ealaíona físe agus closamhairc, agus amharc-ealaíon, ceird agus dearadh.

“Coinnigh súil amach agus roinn do chuid tuairimí linn!”
