Sinn Féin leaders in New York for two days of high level engagements

Sinn Féin Leader Mary Lou McDonald and Finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty are in New York for two days of high level engagements.

Ms. McDonald will deliver a keynote address to an Irish Unity Summit in Cooper Hall on Friday where she will talk about change underway in Ireland.

The Sinn Féin leaders will meet with young Irish emigrants living and working in New York and will also engage with a number of US companies who are key employers in Ireland, visiting Bank of Ireland’s NYC Hub to meet with Irish companies with operations in the US.

The Sinn Féin Leader will also meet with the Palestinian Ambassador to the United Nations Dr. Riyard Mansour to extend our ongoing solidarity with the Palestinian people and to support ongoing efforts for an immediate ceasefire.

Speaking from New York, Ms. McDonald said:

“Our trip to New York is very much focused on the change that is underway in Ireland and the huge potential that is there if we grasp the opportunity.

“We will be meeting with young Irish emigrants who are making a huge contribution to New York and in my keynote address on Friday I will be speaking directly to them. The next chapter of Irish history is being written, and a new and united Ireland is emerging and we want them not only to be part of it, but to drive it.

“Today, another generation is building the future of America, of Canada, of Australia – working in healthcare and education, leading innovation in the Tech industry and finance and in construction. We are proud of their achievements but we want to make sure that they have a pathway home so that they can be part of the change that is underway in Ireland.

“We will be continuing our discussions with Irish and US businesses about future economic growth and opportunity.”
