Sinn Féin introduce ‘Ethical Procurement Policy (EPP)’ council motions across Ireland

Sinn Féin spokesperson for the Middle East, Pat Sheehan MLA, has welcomed his party’s introduction of ‘Ethical Procurement Policy (EPP)’ council motions across Ireland.

This initiative comes at a time when corporations are profiting from protracted armed conflict and systematic violations of human rights.

Speaking in Belfast, the West Belfast MLA said:

“Sinn Féin’s introduction of ‘Ethical Procurement Policy’ motions will propose that no council awards any contracts or utilises services provided by companies involved in breaching human rights and international law.

“Sinn Féin deplores that any business should profit from protracted armed conflict and systematic violations of human rights, or that our local councils would be in any way potentially, directly, or indirectly, complicit with such profiteering.

“This policy will encourage companies to meet their human rights obligations and empower councils to meet international human rights principles and guidelines.”
