Sinn Fein delegation meets Jewish community following vandalism of graves

A Sinn Fein delegation has met with a representative of the Belfast Jewish community following attacks on Jewish graves in the City Cemetery.

Speaking following the meeting, Pat Sheehan MLA said:

“A delegation consisting of MPs Paul Maskey and John Finucane, and myself as the local MLA, met with a representative of the Belfast Jewish community to offer our continued support and solidarity following the recent vandalising of Jewish graves in the City Cemetery.

“The disgraceful destruction of Jewish graves in the City Cemetery must be condemned by all.

“Local Sinn Fein activists spent some time last week doing their best to clean the graves and the surrounding areas which had been vandalised.

“This is not the first time these graves have been vandalised and those involved in these reprehensible hate crimes must held to account.

“Many grieving families find great comfort in visiting cemeteries and they are places of peace and reflection. All graves must be treated with the utmost respect and care.

“Sinn Fein will continue to stand against anti-Semitism and all hate crimes.”
