Sheerin backs call for public enquiry into Sean Brown killing

Sinn Féin MLA Emma Sheerin has welcomed news that the coroner will write to the British Secretary of State requesting a public inquiry into the murder of Sean Brown.

The Mid Ulster MLA said:

“Sean Brown’s family are entitled to truth and justice, and after 27 years it is deplorable they are still waiting for this all these years later.

“Following the coroner’s announcement that the inquest cannot continue due to material being withheld by state agencies, I support the request for a public inquiry.

“I would call on the British Secretary of State to honour this request and move at speed to open a public inquiry as soon as possible. Any more delays in this case is unacceptable.

“Last week, it was confirmed for the first time that British state agents were involved in the murder and that up to 25 people can be linked by intelligence to the murder.

“The British government wants to pull down the shutters on families like the Brown’s and block their efforts to get truth and justice through the courts with its shameful Legacy Act.

“Sinn Féin will continue to support the Brown family and others in their campaign for access to truth and justice.”
