Sexual abuse allegations must be thoroughly investigated – Sorca Clarke TD

Sinn Féin Junior spokesperson on Defence, Sorca Clarke TD, has urged anyone with information about allegations of sexual abuse to contact gardaí following the emergence of claims relating to the Curragh Camp and wider community.

Teachta Clarke said:

“I am very concerned by the serious allegations of sexual abuse which my colleague Patricia Ryan TD has raised on behalf of a whistleblower. The claims allege a very disturbing and long-running issue of sexual abuse connected to the Curragh Camp and reaching out into the wider community.

“Sexual abuse or harassment are serious crimes and must be thoroughly investigated as such. These issues can never be brushed under the carpet or minimised.

“I want to echo Teachta Ryan’s calls for an inquiry into these allegations so that a robust and thorough investigation can take place. I would also urge anyone with any information about these issues, or indeed any allegation of sexual violence, to come forward and contact gardaí.”
