‘Rural Communities in a New Ireland’ event to take place at Balmoral Show

Sinn Féin’s Commission on the Future of Ireland will host a discussion on ‘Rural Communities in a New Ireland’ at this year’s Balmoral Show on Thursday, 16 May at 2pm.

The discussion will take place in the event space located at the rear of the Sustainability Village.

It will be chaired by former agriculture minister Michelle Gildernew MP and the panel members include John McCallister – Beef & Dairy Farmer, Louise Coyle – NI Rural Women’s Network and Elaine Houlihan – President of Macra na Feirme.

Sinn Féin MLA and agriculture spokesperson Declan McAleer said:

“I am delighted that Sinn Féin’s Commission on the Future of Ireland is hosting an event at this year’s Balmoral Show.

“This commission was established to encourage grassroots participation in the conversation about our shared future and for people to have their say; those who advocate Irish unity, those who are undecided, and those who at this time oppose change.

“Rural Ireland deserves investment in roads, improved broadband, better access to healthcare and childcare and support for small businesses. All of this would be best planned and delivered on an all-island basis.

“It is absolutely crucial for farming families and rural communities to engage in the conversation around Irish unity to ensure we maximise the benefits that reunification could have for our communities.” CRÍOCH/ENDS
