Public sector workers deserve fair pay now – Sheehan

Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan has said there should be no more delays in restoring the Assembly and delivering a pay rise for public sector workers.

The party’s education spokesperson said:

“Unite yesterday announced that school staff will join planned industrial action starting next week to campaign for fair pay and conditions.

“These strikes could be avoided. It is disgraceful that school staff, like thousands of other public sector workers, are being forced to take action on the streets for the pay rise they are entitled to.

“The money is there to pay the workers. It is decision time for the DUP. They should end their blockade of the Executive and Assembly and get back to work now.

“In the absence of an Executive, the British Secretary of State should move immediately to implement fair pay rises for public sector workers without any more delays.

“Sinn Féin will continue working to get the Assembly restored and ensure our public sector workers have a fair pay deal.”
