Órliathí has been a Sinn Féin activist since her teens, working as a political advisor to former MLA Sue Ramsey and to Alex Maskey MLA for four years before being co-opted to the Assembly as an MLA in December 2016.
The former St Dominic’s Grammar School pupil graduated from the University of Ulster with a degree in Politics and Criminol- ogy and then went on to complete a Master’s degree in Irish politics at Queen’s University Belfast.
Órlaithí is a relentless campaigner on many issues. She has been to the forefront of campaigns for increased mental health services and has been involved in lobbying for a dual diagnosis service, enhanced crisis and addiction services and a rehabilita- tion centre in West Belfast.
She has also been to the fore of major community infrastruc– ture projects including the delivery of new leisure centres, play parks and sporting facilities.
Órlaithí has also been a strong supporter of the Irish language, marriage equality, LGBT rights, and women’s and workers’ rights.
Órlaithí’s priorities for West Belfast are to develop a first-class mental health service, secure more social and affordable homes, deliver increased jobs and investment, and to advance the conversation on Irish Unity.
