Progress on legislation for Baby Loss Certificate scheme is welcome – Kimmins

Sinn Féin MLA Liz Kimmins has welcomed the announcement from Finance Minister Caoimhe Archibald that she will bring forward legislation to enable a Baby Loss Certificate scheme for losses prior to 24 weeks of pregnancy.

This announcement comes after Sinn Féin brought a motion to the assembly in April supporting a Baby Loss Certificate scheme.

The party’s health spokesperson said:

“As Baby Loss Awareness Week begins today, I want to welcome today’s announcement that finance minister Caoimhe Archibald will bring forward legislation for a Baby Loss Certificate scheme.

“This will give bereaved parents access to an official document acknowledging a baby lost during pregnancy before 24 weeks.

“Losing a baby during pregnancy can be absolutely devastating, and acknowledging that baby can be hugely important for families.

“I will continue to work alongside executive ministers and the other parties to deliver this important initiative.”
