People cannot take another 5 years of Darragh O’Brien making the housing crisis even worse – Matt Carthy

Sinn Féin Director of Elections Matt Carthy has said the prospect of Fianna Fáil installing Darragh O’Brien as Housing Minister again shows how totally in denial they are about the mess he has made in housing.

He said only Sinn Féin can deliver the change people need so that they can afford a home of their own.

Matt Carthy said:

“Fianna Fáil’s big offering to the electorate is another 5 years of Darragh O’Brien as Housing Minister. This sums up how Fianna Fáil are totally in denial about how bad the housing crisis is.

“Darragh O’Brien has been an appalling Housing Minister. On his watch homelessness has soared, rent has sky rocketed to record levels and our young people are emigrating in their droves because they can’t see a future here. That Fianna Fáil would even consider letting Darragh O’Brien anywhere near housing policy again shows how out of touch and blinkered they are.

“Sinn Féin has the plan to make homes affordable and bring home ownership back into reach for working people. It is the most comprehensive and detailed plan of any party. We are ready to hit the ground running in government.

“Sinn Féin’s plan sets out how we will deliver 370,000 new homes – private, public, affordable and to rent homes as well as enabling people to build homes in their own communities.

“Ending the housing crisis would be the number one priority of a Sinn Féin government.

“At this election, voters face a clear choice between more of the same failures on housing from Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael. Or a vote for change by voting for Sinn Féin.

“If you want a change of government, you have to vote for Sinn Féin. Only Sinn Féin can deliver a change of government.”
