Patient safety must be a priority – Dillon

Sinn Féin MLA Linda Dillon today attended a conference on patient safety and public trust, hosted by the Public Services Ombudsman.

Speaking after the conference, the party’s social care spokesperson said:

“The issue of patient safety is being raised by patients, staff and families time and again.

“In the worst cases, patients are dying. Families are also being left traumatised and staff feel they are not being listened to.

“We must place patient safety as a top priority to ensure we do not see repeated failures in our health system.

“There is no overnight fix to this issue. But I would urge the Department of Health to listen to the experiences of patients, families and staff and to address these issues as a matter of urgency.”
