Sinn Féin MLA Carál Ní Chuilín today supported the Mothers Against Genocide pledge to recognize Palestinian rights and end Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories under international law.
The North Belfast MLA was speaking following her Member’s Statement in the Assembly today:
“Last week, I met with Mothers Against Genocide alongside my party colleague Pat Sheehan. This group of women, from across religious and political divides, is calling for an end to genocide in Gaza and lasting peace in Palestine.
“Today, I backed their pledge to call on all legislatures to recognize Palestinian rights, end Israel’s occupation, and protect humanitarian workers, journalists, and health staff under international law. They are also advocating for the end of arms sales, a ban on trade with illegal settlements, and measures to allow sick and injured children to travel to the North of Ireland for treatment, similar to existing schemes in Dublin and London.
“Additionally, the pledge calls for the restoration of UNRWA funding for Palestinian refugees, the release of detained Palestinians and hostages, and support for a just, lasting solution based on equality and human rights—so that every child, every citizen, Israeli or Palestinian, can grow up loved, safe, and happy.”
