Ó Donnghaile condemns anti-Irish language graffiti

Sinn Féin Seanadóir Niall Ó Donnghaile has condemned anti-Irish language graffiti which has appeared on the Castlereagh Road in Belfast.

Tá grafitti frith-Ghaeilge cáinte ag an Seanadóir Niall Ó Donnghaile atá feicthe ar Bhóthar an Chaisleáin Riabhaigh i mBéal Feirste.

Niall Ó Donnghaile said:

Dúirt Ó Donnghaile:

“New graffiti on the Castlereagh Road attacking the Irish language is wrong and must be condemned by all.

Tá graffiti nua ar Bhóthar an Chaisleáin Riabhaigh ag ionsaí na Gaeilge mícheart agus ní mór d’achan duine é a chaineadh.

“It is indicative of the attitude of some in society who show a complete disregard, lack of respect and hatred for an Irish identity.

Léiríonn sé tuairimí daoine áirid sa phobal a léiríonn easpa measa agus fuath don fhéiniúlacht Ghaelach.

“In Belfast, we now have one of the most progressive bilingual street-signage policies in the north for people who choose to have their street named in both Irish and English.

Tá ceann de na polasaithe comharthaíochta dátheangaí is forásaí ó thuaidh againn i mBéal Feirste don duine ar mhaith leo a chomhartha sráide a bheith dátheangach.

“No one has anything to fear from the Irish language – it is inclusive and it is thriving across Belfast and beyond.

Níor cheart don Ghaeilge eagla a chur roimh aon duine – is teanga chuimsitheach í agus tá sí ag bláthú i mBéal Feirste agus is faide anonn.

“Anyone with information on this graffiti should report it to the PSNI.

Má tá eolas ag aon duine ar an graffiti seo, ba cheart dóibh a thuairisciú leis an PSNI.”
