Cavan Monaghan Sinn Féin TD, Matt Carthy, has welcomed the news that the Nuremore Hotel in Carrickmacross has been purchased by a consortium led by well known hoteliers.
He said that he will be engaging with state agencies to ensure that all possible support is delivered so that this flagship property is restored as a fully functional, commercial hotel, leisure centre and golf club, without delay.
The Nuremore Hotel & Country Club, once a flagship tourism amenity in the South Monaghan economy, has been closed since January 2023. Deputy Carthy previously said that he believes that a lack of oversight of a government scheme, the Immigrant Investor Programme, led to the hotel being ran into liquidation.
Teachta Carthy said:
“The Nuremore Hotel & Country club has been a huge loss to the local community, the regional economy and County Monaghan tourism since the doors were shut in January 2023.
“It is absolutely great news that a consortium led by well known hoteliers have now purchased the Nuremore. It is a fantastic development that has been a long time coming.
“It is imperative that all efforts are now put into bringing the Nuremore back to life as quickly as possible. For my part, I will be engaging with relevant state agencies to ensure that this flagship property is restored as a fully functional, commercial hotel, leisure centre and golf club, without any further delay.
“The Nuremore has been a crucial economic driver that has been denied to the people of Carrickmacross, south Monaghan and the wider region. The closure has had profound negative effects on our ability to attract tourism.
“We must all work to support the new owners in developing this important amenity.”
