No one should be organising illegal protests – Gildernew

Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew has said no one should be organising illegal protests designed to raise community tensions. 

The Fermanagh South Tyrone MLA said: 

“Messages circulating on social media calling for an illegal loyalist march from Moygashel to Dungannon are very concerning, particularly given the violent events in Belfast in recent days. 

“There are also reports of a counter protest being planned by Saoradh. 

“No one, whoever they claim to represent, should be holding illegal protests which are only designed to raise community tensions. 

“Whoever is behind these protests should call them off immediately and we need to see the leaders of political unionism coming out and calling for these and other illegal protests to be called off. 

“The PSNI also have a responsibility to police in a proactive and preventative manner which keeps communities safe.”

Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan has welcomed a pay offer made to NI Water workers that would see their wages rise by 5%, as well them being paid a one-off £1500 payment.

Families have waited far too long for truth and justice, and they shouldn’t endure further delays.

The Labour government must end its delay and fully deliver on their pre-election commitment to repeal and replace the Legacy Act, returning to the principles of the Stormont House…

Sinn Féin in the Executive has secured a 5% pay rise & a £1,500 one-off payment for NI Water workers.

Infrastructure Minister John O'Dowd & Finance Minister Caoimhe Archibald worked to deliver this offer.
