Nelson welcomes sentencing following ‘reprehensible’ sectarian intimidation

Sinn Féin councillor Catherine Nelson has welcomed the conviction and sentencing of two men charged with involvement in intimidating a woman in her home in Lurgan last year.

The leader of the Sinn Féin ABC council group said:

“I welcome the conviction and sentencing of two men involved in the sectarian intimidation of a young mother in April of last year.

“This was a terrifying ordeal for the woman and her baby son.

“It’s important that the courts have sent out a message that there is no place for this kind of behaviour in our community and that everyone in society deserves to live free from this vile intimidation.

“Concerns had been raised initially about the PSNI’s handling of the incident and it is my hope that lessons will be learned about the response to incidents like this going forward.”
