More must be done to tackle drug use in Magilligan – Hargey

Sinn Féin MLA Deirdre Hargey has expressed disappointment that most recommendations made in the 2021 inspection on drug use in Magilligan Prison have not been implemented.

The party’s justice spokesperson said:

“I welcome this report although it is concerning that over half of the recommendations made in the 2021 inspection are yet to see any ‘meaningful progress’.

“The recommendations previously made now require urgent attention to ensure they are implemented.

“We will continue to engage with the relevant agencies in the time ahead to ensure the safety of people in prisons.”
