‘More must be done to stop rip-off insurance costs’ – Brogan

Sinn Féin MLA Nicola Brogan has welcomed a review of the ‘Personal Injury Discount Rate’ that should see motor insurance premiums here drop.

However, the party’s finance spokesperson said that more must be done to support motorists.

Nicola Brogan said:

“For too long, motorists, and particularly young drivers have faced extortionate rates when buying car insurance.

“This has seen ordinary workers and families paying more at a time when pockets are squeezed as a result of high living costs.

“I welcome a review of the ‘Personal Injury Discount Rate’, which should see motor insurance premiums in the North drop.

“In May Sinn Féin brought a motion to the Assembly supporting an investigation into insurance price hikes, and to urge the British government to reduce costs by cutting the Insurance Premium Tax.

“While this reduction is welcome, more must be done to stop rip-off insurance premiums and I will continue to press the British government to ensure people here receive a fair insurance price.”
