Molloy calls for release of Bahrain political prisoners

Sinn Féin MP Francie Molloy has called for the release of pro-democracy political prisoners in Bahrain.

Speaking after meeting with pro-democracy activists from Bahrain in London, some of whom are unable to return home due to threats, the Mid Ulster MP said:

“I was honoured to extend our full solidarity with the people of Bahrain as they continue their struggle for democratic rule.

“I am happy to join with Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and last year’s urgency resolution in the European Parliament calling for the immediate release of all pro-democracy political prisoners in Bahrain.

“I have raised these matters with my party colleague Matt Carthy TD and he will be directly raising them with the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Dublin.

“Sinn Féin believes passionately in democracy, we believe in rights, and we believe in the power of ordinary people. That is why Sinn Féin supports the calls for democracy and peace in Bahrain and the release of all political prisoners.”
