Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan has said the education minister must be fully transparent and fully accountable in the allocation of funding.
Following media reports that the education minister made an allocation of £710,000 to a school who made no formal application, the party’s education spokesperson said:
“Many schools are in chronic need of capital investment and have been unable to secure funding from the Department of Education.
“The Minister of Education must provide a full explanation of the circumstances of the reported allocation of over £700,000 following a ministerial visit and without a formal application process.
“Sinn Féin is submitting an urgent question to the education minister so the Assembly can properly scrutinise these reports and the circumstances of this allocation. There must be full transparency and full accountability in the allocation of scarce public funds.”
