Sinn Féin Leader on Dublin City Council and European election candidate for Dublin, Daithí Doolan, has this morning responded to reports of a gun attack in Bluebell last night.
He said that Dublin communities no longer feels safe in their homes and on their streets, and added that the Minister for Justice Helen McEntee must release the resources needed to guarantee a strong visible presence of Gardaí in Bluebell and to ensure that those involved are apprehended.
Cllr Doolan said:
“The gun attack on a house last night in Bluebell has once again terrorised our community, and follows another similar incident in Drimnagh less than 24 hours previously where children were asleep inside the home targeted.
“Those involved need to be apprehended and face justice, quickly. The reality is that so many people right across Dublin no longer feel safe in their homes and on their streets.
“I would strongly encourage anyone with information to please contact the Gardaí. As a community, we need to stand together against these violent criminals.
“The threats of violence and attacks in Dublin City are increasing again, and the Minister for Justice has failed to respond. She must release adequate resources to guarantee a strong visible presence of Gardaí in Bluebell and Drimnagh to ensure that those involved in this violence are caught.
“Fine Gael has overseen the Department of Justice since being elected to government in 2011 and, in that time, they have overseen a plummet in Garda numbers.
“Ordinary communities right across Dublin City, and the ordinary rank and file members of An Garda Síochána, have been left to pay the price and simply do not feel safe.
“A Sinn Féin government would invest in policing to ensure that communities feel safe and protected, and ensure that Gardaí have the resources they need to do so.”
