Michael McNamara voted for Water Charges. He should tell the truth – Senator Paul Gavan

Sinn Féin European Candidate for Ireland South, Senator Paul Gavan, has called on Michael McNamara to “come clean and tell the truth” on voting for Water Charges.

Senator Gavan said:

“Last night on the RTÉ Prime Time debate, Michael Namara said that he never voted for water charges. That’s not true and he knows it.

“As a TD in the Fine Gael-Labour government, Michael voted for water charges in the Dáil. At a time when workers, families and communities needed their TDs to stand up for them, Michael McNamara voted for these unfair charges.

“It took real people power to stop water charges from being imposed on households already struggling through an economic crash, austerity and some of the cruellest cuts ever inflicted on workers and families by a government.

“People in Ireland South should be clear on the record of those asking for their votes next Friday. Michael McNamara should come clean and tell the truth. He voted for water charges. He let working people down when it really mattered.

“That’s not what we need in the European Parliament. We need MEPs who will stand up for workers and families. That’s what I will do every single day if elected on June 7th.”
