MEP MacManus visits new Burrishoole Community Centre

Sinn Féin MEP Chris MacManus has hailed South Mayo Development Company for their work in supporting community development across the County. The Midlands Northwest representative was speaking after visiting the company’s offices in Newport and Burrishoole Community Centre alongside his colleagues Rose Conway-Walsh TD and local election candidate Karen Gallagher.

MEP MacManus said:

“I was pleased to meet the team at the South West Mayo Development Company in Newport recently alongside my colleagues Rose Conway-Walsh TD and Karen Gallagher.

“It was very heartening to hear about the positive work they are involved in throughout the local community, particularly through EU funding programmes such as LEADER.

“Their commitment to community development is second to none and they have played a key role in progressing a number of local projects alongside local groups.

“The new Burrishoole Community Centre is a fantastic example of this, and I was pleased to also get the opportunity to visit the centre and receive a tour from Ger McNulty. Ger and his fellow Committee members deserve huge credit for their work over many years in advancing this project. It is an outstanding facility which will be a fantastic amenity for all in the local community for many years to come.

“It demonstrates the benefits that EU funding can bring to local communities, and in my role as MEP I will be working to ensure that EU funding can continue to benefit communities across Mayo and the West of Ireland where it is most needed.
