Mason presses British government to increase childcare subsidy

Sinn Féin MLA Cathy Mason has said the British government must increase the subsidy for childcare providers to make childcare more affordable.

The party’s spokesperson on childcare and early years said:

“Childcare providers are struggling to keep their doors open due to increased operating costs, and difficulties faced recruiting and retaining workers.

“I have written to the British Chancellor urging her to increase the rate of tax-free childcare savings from 20% to 30%.

“This would provide a huge boost in helping providers to stabilise their finances and to make childcare more affordable for workers and families.

“I’ll continue to press the British government to help deliver high quality, affordable childcare for all.”
