Mason asks Education Minister to consider interim support for childcare providers

Sinn Féin MLA Cathy Mason has asked the Education Minister to consider interim support for childcare providers to tackle the immediate pressures facing childcare.

Speaking after a presentation from the Department of Education, the party’s childcare spokesperson said:

“Many childcare providers have told me they are at breaking point, some are just breaking even, while some are running at a loss and unfortunately we have also seen closures.

“Childcare providers point to recruiting and retaining workers as one of the biggest challenges they face.

“I have asked the Minister of Education to look at potential interim support for providers.

“We need action from the Minister to deliver a fully funded childcare strategy.

“Childcare providers and families cannot wait any longer”
