MacManus praises work of Alcohol Forum after visit to Letterkenny office

Sinn Féin MEP Chris MacManus has praised Alcohol Forum Ireland for their work in supporting individuals and families affected by drug and alcohol abuse. The Midlands Northwest representative was speaking after visiting the organisation’s offices in Letterkenny alongside his Sinn Féin colleague Cllr Gerry McMonagle.

MEP MacManus said:
“I was pleased to meet the team at Alcohol Forum in Letterkenny alongside my colleague Cllr Gerry McMonagle. Alcohol Forum provide a number of supports and services to individuals and families affected by drug and alcohol abuse and work to change our country’s relationship with drugs and alcohol. Addiction causes huge societal problems and this work is extremely valuable and effective in reducing the harm associated with it.”

“They impressed upon us the seriousness of tackling these issues with an average of over 3 deaths from alcohol per day recorded in this State. It is clear that cultural change and changes within the alcohol industry are needed to address these problems.”

“I would like to thank Alcohol Forum for meeting with us and commend them for their ongoing work in tackling these issues.” ENDS
