Sinn Féin MEP for Dublin, Lynn Boylan, has said she will stand up for ordinary workers and families in the European Parliament.
Her comments came at the end of her first week in the Parliament, where she has been appointed to the International Trade Committee and the ENVI Committee; that deal with international trade deals and environmental issues respectively.
Speaking today, MEP Boylan said:
“I am looking forward to working on these two key committees, to ensure that the best possible decisions are made for people at home in Dublin. I will stand up for the voices of ordinary workers and families and fight to ensure they get the investment and prioritisation they need.
“On the International Trade Committee I will be a key voice in negotiating the European Parliament’s position on international trade deals. I will fight to ensure that these deals are in Ireland’s best interests. I will continue the struggle to reject Mercosur, which I have been clear has always been a bad deal for Ireland, as well as other deals that harm the environment and Ireland’s interests. I am also committed to ensuring that post-Brexit arrangements respect the Good Friday Agreement and protect the all-island economy.
“As a committed champion for climate action, I am delighted to be a member of the ENVI Committee. I will promote a just transition, that is fair for all communities and ensure that the environment is protected for future generations. I will put forward and support solutions to the climate crisis that empower communities.
“This week, I and my colleague Sinn Féin MEP Kathleen Funchion, hit the ground running in Strasbourg. During the election campaign, I pledged to work hard, to stand up for the people of Dublin and make a real difference on the issues that matter to their daily lives. That is exactly what I am determined to deliver.”
