Lessons must be learned following failures in Katie Simpson case – Dillon

Sinn Féin MLA Linda Dillon has said lessons must be learned after the Police Ombudsman found the investigation into the death of Katie Simpson was ‘flawed and failed her family.’

Linda Dillon said:

“Firstly my thoughts are with the family, friends and all those who loved Katie Simpson.

“It is clear that huge lessons must be learnt by the PSNI as a result of how they investigated or more accurately how they failed to investigate Katie’s death, which ultimately turned out to be her murder.“Family, friends and health workers had all raised concerns but there was a failure to follow through and investigate.

“It is important that any learnings are applied to future cases and when people come forward with concerns that they are considered and investigated by the PSNI.“The PSNI have a violence against women and girls strategy that must guide their approach to future cases. Lessons must also be learnt to ensure that this can never happen again.”
