Land acquired for Magee campus ‘another step in the right direction’ – Delargy

Sinn Féin MLA Pádraig Delargy has hailed an announcement from Economy Minister Caoimhe Archibald that land, key to the expansion of Ulster University’s Magee campus, has been acquired.

The purchase of the Timber Quay office block follows the recent acquisition of sites along Queens Quay which will allow Ulster University to accommodate 375 students in the next academic year.

“This is another step in the right direction for the north west as we continue on the journey towards 10,000 students at Magee,” said the Foyle MLA.

“With student numbers currently at maximum capacity, today’s purchase will mean hundreds of extra students will be able to study at the university in the next academic year.”

Mr. Delargy also spoke of the enormous potential which lies ahead in the development of the university.

“The expansion of Magee will have a hugely positive impact for our communities and help to continue with the positive transformation of the region.

“Solidifying Derry’s place firmly on the map as an exciting hub of economic and social activity is a priority for Sinn Féin, and I am committed to continuing to work with the Executive to progress this game-changing project.”
