Kimmins welcomes passing of motion calling for improved regulation for non-surgical cosmetic treatments

Sinn Féin MLA Liz Kimmins has welcomed the passing of her party’s motion in the Assembly on Monday calling for improved regulation for non-surgical cosmetic treatments.

The party’s health spokesperson said:

“Non-surgical cosmetic treatments, such as botox and dermal fillers, are becoming increasingly popular, and it is important we have the proper regulations in place to ensure patient safety.

“Today, I brought forward a motion in the Assembly urging the health minister to consider regulation to ensure that aesthetic medicines are correctly stored and safely administered by qualified practitioners.

“This would protect beauticians and others in the industry and help ensure that best practice is promoted and people are protected.

“It’s welcome that parties have supported this motion, and I now look forward to seeing the health minister’s proposals on this important issue.”
