Sinn Féin MLA Liz Kimmins has welcomed the passing of a motion brought to the Assembly today calling on the health minister to develop specialist autism mental health services.
The party’s health spokesperson said:
“I welcome cross-party support for Sinn Féin’s motion in the Assembly today which urges the health minister to bring forward a plan for specialist autism mental health services.
“Unfortunately, many children and adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are unable to access the mental health support they need and deserve.
“We have heard the lived experiences of hundreds of individuals and families who are struggling to obtain mental health support for themselves, or for their child, or family member with ASD.
“The health minister must now work together with those with autism and their families to deliver fully accessible mental health services that meet their needs.”
