Kimmins welcomes assembly motion on children’s social care services

Sinn Féin MLA Liz Kimmins has welcomed the passing of a motion in the assembly on Tuesday calling on the health minister to set out actions in response to the recommendations from the Independent Review of Children’s Social Care Services report.

The party’s health spokesperson said:

“The Independent Review of Children’s Social Care Services report, published in June 2023, laid bare the urgent need for reform.

“We now need to see a plan from the health minister, detailing a timeline for action relating to the recommendations from this report.

This must be accompanied by a sufficient workforce plan, too many social work vacancies exist across the north this has resulted in gaps in children’s services with existing staff feeling overwhelmed and under-resourced.

“Children deserve the very best start to life and workers deserve to be supported, we need action now.”
