Kearney Welcomes Minister’s Support for Living Wage

Sinn Féin MLA Declan Kearney has welcomed  the Economy Minister Conor Murphy’s move to support organisations that promote the Living Wage.

The party’s Workers’ Rights spokesperson said:

“Today the Minister for the Economy announced additional funding to support the partnership between Advice NI and the Living Wage Foundation.

“Encouraging our businesses to become Living Wage employers will help to tackle in – work poverty and to raise the living standards of thousands of workers across the north.

“Evidence shows that fairly – paid workers are more productive in their employment and that they and their families enjoy better levels of physical and mental health.

“In recent times, workers and their families have been faced with unprecedented cost of living challenges. It is only fair that hard – working families are adequately rewarded for their work and able to sustain a good standard of living.

“One of the MInister’s priorities is to promote good jobs where workers are paid good wages and are ensured fair terms, work conditions and job security.”
