Sinn Féin MLA Pádraig Delargy has expressed his party’s continued support and solidarity with Irish language groups.
He was speaking ahead of a half-day strike on Wednesday when Irish language organisations and community groups across the island will be protesting against funding cuts.
“As these groups and tireless activists prepare to go on strike, I want to say we support them every step of the way,” Pádraig Delargy said.
“These organisations, which rely on funding from Foras na Gaeilge, play a pivotal role in strengthening the language in communities throughout Ireland.
“Thanks to grassroots groups such as these, Irish is flourishing, with record numbers of children and adults learning the language.
“We must rally behind these groups and support their invaluable work in any and every way we can.
“Fair funding is essential to ensuring these organisations remain sustainable and continue to grow.
“I would urge everyone to approach the issue of fairly funding these organisations with positivity and determination, to find a workable, long-term resolution, and ensure these groups can continue to thrive.”
