Irish government must act on deepening crisis in Palestine – Sheerin

Sinn Féin MLA Emma Sheerin has called on the Irish government to act to end the deepening crisis in Jerusalem and Gaza following days of Israeli aggression and the killing of over 20 Palestinians.

Speaking from the Assembly today, the Mid Ulster MLA said:

“Today I requested an urgent discussion in the Assembly on the deepening crisis in East Jerusalem and Gaza as result of aggression by the Israeli military.

“Over 20 people are now dead, including children, and hundreds injured after days of Israeli airstrikes and violent clashes which included a full-scale assault on Al Aqsa Mosque.

“This is deeply concerning and a further extension of Israel’s campaign to expand settlements and forcibly evict Palestinians from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah.

“The international community and the Irish government must act to end this crisis and defend the rights of the Palestinian people.

“The Irish government must use its position on the UN Security Council to call for an urgent session to demand implementation of the UN resolutions on Jerusalem and occupied Palestine.”
