International Protection: A Fair System That Works
International Protection: A Fair System That Works
Sinn Féin has a plan to fix the broken international protection system: a plan for a fair and humane system that recognises both the pressures that many communities are under and the needs of those seeking international protection.
A plan with clear rules that must be applied, that is efficient and makes decisions quickly. A plan that works with communities and only locates centres in areas with the capacity and services to support them.
As Irish republicans and a party of the left, our plan is rooted in our values of equality, anti-racism and human rights and stands firmly with working-class communities who have been neglected and forgotten for generations.
Sinn Féin will:
- Treble the staff across the system to allow fast and fair decisions.
- Ensure the rules are clear and are enforced.
- Support integration for successful applicants.
- Safe returns, and where required deportations, for those whose claims have been rejected.
- End profiteering by private interests and locate state run centres in areas that have the capacity for them.
- Create a standard, transparent and consistent approach to community consultation including opportunity for submissions.
- End the two-tier system so that all those seeking international protection are treated equally irrespective of where they come from
