‘Internal Market Bill threatens human rights’ – Sheerin

Sinn Féin MLA Emma Sheerin has expressed concern about the negative impact of the British Government’s Internal Market Bill on the Good Friday Agreement and Rights.

The party’s Equality Spokesperson said:

“The Human Rights and Equality Commissions are very clear that this Bill threatens the human rights of everyone in the north of Ireland.

“It makes a mockery of the Irish Protocol.

“The commissions are concerned that the British government’s Bill will remove people’s right to access the courts for breaches of their rights under the European Convention of Human Rights. I sure those concerns.

“The Irish Protocol in the EU Withdrawal Agreement protects against any diminution of human rights guaranteed under the Good Friday Agreement.

“The ECHR is the cornerstone of these human rights and any attempt to undermine must be resisted.”
