Sinn Féin MP Dáire Hughes has this morning met with a delegation of the European Parliament’s International Trade Committee in London.
Speaking after, the Newry and Armagh MP said:
“I was delighted to speak with the European Parliament’s International Trade Committee today discussing the enormous potential our island has to build a new and better future.
“We discussed the north’s unique dual-market access and the huge economic opportunities which lie ahead to drive investment and create more jobs.
“I outlined the benefits of the all-island economy and positive initiatives taken to strengthen it, including Economy Minister Conor Murphy opening an invest NI office in Dublin.
“Committee members were keen to hear views on the growing debate on Irish unity, and I spoke of the flourishing conversation which is taking place across our society.
“I also raised the pressing need for Europe to suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement given Israel’s barbaric actions against Palestine and Lebanon. There must be immediate political and economic sanctions imposed on Israel while its genocidal actions continue.
“I’ll continue working hard to promote the north as an exciting place to live, work and study, and to take every opportunity to raise the plight of the ordinary people of Palestine and Lebanon.”
